So I think we're all up to speed about the M3/M4's specs...

...and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! - a total weight that's around 3,300 lbs, 430 HP and 370 lb-ft of torque from a twin-turbo inline-6, standard 6-speed manual with an optional 7-speed DCT, etc. But part of me is disappointed because of those rumors about a tri-turbo 6 - that would've been crazy.

I was hoping for a bit more. The specs are good, but nothing that puts it out of the reach of, say, the next Mustang GT.

The Mustang/M3 cross-shopping argument is a fictional scenario that never happens in the real world. Ever.

I know, but the new M4 will be a $70k car that compares on paper to the Mustang GT. It is a question worth asking, Is it worth the money? Because I personally think BMW has lost it lately.

No, it really isn't a question worth asking.

It wasn't worth asking five years ago, and it isn't worth asking now.

I will concede that point to you. The bigger threat is the ATS V, which could be lighter and will probably be more powerful.

Yes, you might spend less than half on a new Mustang GT that might have similar power specs, but you'd also be driving a Mustang GT.

And I don't say that as a knock on the Mustang, it's just not going to be as well put together, well appointed, or handle like a M3/4.

So you are judging the build quality, amenities and handling of a car that is still in the mule stage?

Aanndd you don't know that. The Mustang GT costs half as much as the M3 but performs equally or better. Even though the Mustang GT costs half as much, it isn't half the car in other respects such as interior or ride or quality. You're paying twice the money for a car with the exact same layout, that isn't even close to twice the car. You can try to justify it all you want, but using actual logic and not fanboyism, it doesn't make sense. These are not the days when there was no other car with the same layout as the M3 that could beat it; when the Mustang GT was a joke. No, now the M3/M4 is a joke.

I am. You really think Ford is going to come out with something that surpasses the fit, finish, and handling prowess of a BMW M-car?

Fit and finish? Probably not. Handling? Maybe. I expect it to at least match the old Boss 302, and now it has IRS.
